From community literacy programs to a full-fledged school – a journey of dedication and service.
Naseer Ahmad Khan founded the Vikalp Trust with a vision to serve the community and make education accessible to all. The Trust began its journey with community development initiatives in the Okhla and Jogabai Extension areas of New Delhi.
In collaboration with the Study Resource Centre (SRC), Jamia Millia Islamia University, the Trust conducted Centre Based Literacy Programmes across 20–25 centers. Learners received literacy education as well as vocational training in tailoring, embroidery, weaving, and handicrafts.
Vikalp Trust partnered with the Government of Delhi under the UEE Mission Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan program, running 30 centers across different locations. About 900 non-school-going children were benefitted. Vocational courses in Motor Winding, Cutting, Tailoring, and House Wiring were offered, with certification from Sharmik Vidyapeeth, Delhi Government.
The Trust reached out to construction workers by providing literacy classes at building sites. Workers were taught to read, write, and manage basic banking – withdrawing money, sending money, and filling bank forms – fostering self-reliance and financial independence.
In partnership with the Rotary Club, the Trust created a library of about 25,000 books in the basement of a mosque in Okhla Vihar. Books were distributed free through volunteers on bicycles across Jamia Nagar. The collection was later donated to DCP South Delhi Police and became the celebrated "Dost Chowki" library in Govind Puri.
Building on decades of community service, Vikalp Public School has grown into a respected educational institution offering quality education from Nursery to Class X with a dedicated faculty, modern computer labs, and a focus on holistic development.
