Serving the community with sincerity, honesty and a commitment to education since 2002
VIKALP Trust has been offering its services since 2002, making the future of children with utmost sincerity and honesty. The Trust is striving to make everyone a good citizen by providing access to education, skills and opportunities.
Founded by Naseer Ahmad Khan, Vikalp Trust started with community development initiatives in the Okhla and Jamia Nagar areas of New Delhi. What began as literacy programs in open grounds and community spaces has grown into a fully recognized educational institution.
The Trust works with government bodies, universities, and NGOs to ensure that the most marginalized communities have access to quality education and vocational skills – believing that education is the most powerful tool for change.
Over the years, Vikalp Trust has benefited thousands of children and adults through its various programs – from construction workers learning to read, to young women gaining vocational skills, to out-of-school children being brought back to the mainstream.
Over two decades, Vikalp Trust has undertaken impactful programs that have transformed lives in and around Okhla, New Delhi.
In collaboration with the Study Resource Centre (SRC), Jamia Millia Islamia University, Vikalp Trust organized Centre Based Literacy classes across 20–25 centers in and around the Okhla area.
Along with literacy education, self-help groups provided vocational training in cutting, tailoring, weaving, hand embroidery, and making pen refills – improving the financial condition of the learners and empowering them with skills for self-dependence.
Vikalp Trust was empanelled by the Government of Delhi under the UEE Mission Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan to run 30 Learning Centers across different locations, benefitting approximately 900 non-school-going children.
Technical classes in Motor Winding, Cutting, Tailoring, and House Wiring were offered. All participants received official certification from Sharmik Vidyapeeth, Delhi Government, and were provided bank loans of ₹5,000 each to start their livelihood activities.
Under this unique initiative, Vikalp Trust reached out to construction workers at their work sites. Wherever 15–20 workers were found at a building construction site, the Trust organized literacy classes after working hours.
Beyond reading and writing, workers were taught essential financial skills – how to withdraw money from banks and post offices, how to send money to their families, and how to fill withdrawal forms themselves, enabling genuine self-dependence.
In partnership with the Rotary Club, Vikalp Trust selected five volunteers and sent them to Jamia Nagar with 5 bicycles to distribute books free of charge. Through this effort, a library of about 25,000 books was established in the basement of a mosque in Okhla Vihar, Jamia Nagar area.
After three years, these books were donated to DCP South Delhi Police, Mr. Parveen Ranjan, who opened a public library in Govind Puri Area named "Dost Chowki" – a lasting legacy of the Trust's community service.
Recognized by the UEEM Mission, Delhi Government, Vikalp Trust participated in organizing Bal Melas across Delhi to celebrate Children's Week (14–19 November). These events were designed for out-of-school and disadvantaged children enrolled in Learning Centers under SSA, Delhi.
The Trust received official correspondence from Rina Ray, IAS – Chairperson, UEEM, acknowledging the Trust's role as a Nodal NGO for the initiative, highlighting the government's recognition of the Trust's work.
The crowning achievement of all Trust efforts – Vikalp Public School, offering formal quality education from Nursery to Class X. The school provides affordable, value-based education with qualified teachers, computer facilities, co-curricular activities, and a safe, nurturing environment.
For over two decades, the school has been the Trust's primary vehicle for its mission of empowering every child to become a confident, responsible, and productive member of society.
Every child deserves quality education. Help us continue our work by partnering with or enrolling in Vikalp Public School.
